Low Risk & Content-Based Activities

Class building is not an activity or set of activities that happen only on the first day or week of school. In order for class building to be effective, various activities must be integrated throughout the school year. Activities can be divided into low-risk activities and content-based activities. Low-risk activities provide the teacher and students an opportunity to build or rebuild the class bonds and provide positive social interaction. Content-based activities also allow students to connect to the content being taught. For example, a low-risk class building activity might be “Find Someone Who” where students are looking for personal attributes (e.g.: Someone who is an only child, someone who has lived in another country, someone who has a cat.). A content-based version of “Find Someone Who” might have each student represent a different European country. Students would then need to Find Someone Who has a gross annual profit higher than the United States.
