This chapter is short and sweet – but it is very important! So many decisions are based on aptitude tests and counselors need to exercise much caution in giving them and applying them. The more counselors understand about the advantages and disadvantages, the better decisions they can make in application and use. Aptitude tests measure an individual’s performance on selected tasks to predict how that person will perform sometime in the future or in a different situation. This chapter covers not only acquired knowledge, but innate ability in order to determine one’s potential – read carefully to understand when, how, and what aptitude tests are best used for.
