Personality Assessment and Evaluation of an Individual (Whole Group)
Introduction:
It is of considerable importance that a counselor does not use one primary assessment to base important decisions on. Using more than one assessment gives a rounder, fuller picture of the individual, and provides a more accurate assessment from which predictions can be considered, and therapeutic practice can be built upon. For this activity, you will be taking multiple assessments and then writing a short evaluation based on those assessments taken by you. Remember to be short and concise – this is technical writing. Enjoy!
Directions:
-
Be sure that you have completed this week's assigned readings.
-
Complete the following individual assessments. Remember to save the results of your online tests so that you have them for your write-up. You will need the details.
- Read the directions and properly administer the MBTI to yourself, if you have not yet. Remember to take it without going back and evaluating responses and to work to think of each item as a stand alone – not in conjunction with other items. Research it online to see if this is a good fit for you.
- Take the IPIP-NEO assessment. There is a shorter one available, but you need to take the one on this specific page. Print your results or save them on your computer. The site has a great deal of good information on the NEO, if you wish to read up on it on the home page of the site.
- Take the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory from your packet, and score it. Follow the instructions given on the assessment and follow them carefully. Be sure to note your score.
- Take the FIRO B and follow the instructions for the self-scoring.
-
Administer the Beck Depression Inventory for Youth to yourself, and score it. Remember that it refers to the past two weeks, and no longer.
-
By Saturday, post your response in the whole group discussion forum titled, Week 11: Personality Assessment and Individual Evaluation, to the following prompt:
Summarize your experience of taking the assessments, scoring the assessments, and evaluating your results from individual assessments. Are there any surprises? Discrepancies? Any awkward or uncomfortable results? Now, comprehensively analyze your own results from all the tests – do the results show agreement? Discrepancy? Are some areas measured on two different assessments? Look at the different categories of measurement and see if the ones expected to be negative correlations are negative. Look to see if the ones that should be positively correlated are positively correlated. Summarize your findings. Please do not reveal any scores that you are not comfortable with. You are not required to expected to disclose personal scores in this exercise.
-
Revisit the discussion forum multiple times throughout the week and contribute at least two additional substantive postings to two different students by Monday. Be sure that you are substantially discussing the information with your classmates, and not just agreeing or disagreeing with them. Short comments or acknowledgements will not earn the points desired for a passing grade.
MMPI Assessment Evaluation (Whole Group)
Introduction:
The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory is used commonly to diagnose psychopathology. It is a complex assessment that requires specialized training to administer. This program does not offer that. However, it is important that you be able to evaluate the results of this assessment for evaluation purposes. This activity reveals the scores of Nicholas, and you are asked to evaluate his scores on several different scales. Be sure to read and research the scales and evaluating of same prior to doing this activity. More information can be found in the library and online, if you wish for more information than your textbook gives you.
Directions:
-
Be sure that you have completed this week's assigned readings.
-
Download and read the Case Study for Nicholas.
-
By Saturday, each student should read through the case study and post a response in the Week 11: MMPI Assessment Evaluation whole group forum by responding to questions 1-5 (questions are located in the case study). This is a short answer response. Please keep your posts short and concise – reading this material can get monotonous with a great deal of detail – so please simply summarize your findings.

Revisit the discussion forum multiple times throughout the week. Contribute at least two additional substantive postings by Monday.
Assignment: Weekly Quizzes (Individual)
Introduction:
There is a quiz each week that is taken directly from the textbook, and covers items you will need to know to prepare you for the NCE exam. The quiz contains all multiple choice questions, and they come directly from the text. These are open book, open note quizzes, and they must be completed by the end of each week.
Each quiz will reset on Sunday, for anyone who needs to retake it. You may retake it for more new questions, or you may retake it to increase your grade. In either case, when there are two grades, the highest grade will be used for your final grade. If there is one grade, that will be used. Taking it twice cannot harm your grade. Correct answers are posted after the quiz is no longer available for a grade; which is two weeks following the week it was made available.
