Who is the Module for?
Developed by the Maryland State Department of Education in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Technology in Education, the Preschool through Kindergarten LRE/NE Team Decision Making Module is an online resource for:
- IEP and Extended IFSP teams;
- Early education and care community partners;
- Families of young children with disabilities; and
- Referral sources and agencies serving young children with disabilities.
What are the Intended Outcomes of the Module?
1. LRE/NE Options for an inclusive early childhood education
Outcome: IEP/Extended IFSP teams, of which parents are members, will select the local early childhood setting(s) where young children with disabilities can participate in an inclusive education with their typically developing peers.
2. Foundation for inclusive early childhood education
Outcome: All LRE/NE partners will understand the benefits of, and legal requirements for, an inclusive early childhood education for young children with disabilities in Maryland with IEPs/Extended IFSPs.
3. Instructional practices supporting an inclusive early childhood education
Outcome: Provide a framework for identifying and putting in place the supports, modification and accommodations needed to support successful outcomes in the identified early childhood setting(s);
4. Collaboration and Teaming
Outcome: Provide best practice and proven strategies for building local community partnerships with early childhood programs to increase the continuum of options for quality early childhood settings for students with IEPs.
