Just for Me

Just for Me provides an opportunity for you to take a step back from the content and apply it to your own professional practice.

The resources below extend resources provided in Sessions 1 and 2 with additional information, toolkits, and experiences of the State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) Grant Support Team who have engaged in the process of involving stakeholders in data system initiatives. A new comprehensive resource on stakeholder engagement developed by the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (2014) is also spotlighted.

You can download the Supporting DaSy Clients as Leaders: Resource Review Chart located in the Resource callout box below to guide your exploration of the highlighted resources. Like the charts you used in Session 1 and Session 2, this chart is customized to address the resources applicable to this session. You can use this chart to record notes on ways each resource may be beneficial in your work as a DaSy technical assistance provider.

Resources

These resources offer insight into how to engage stakeholders in processes relevant to data system initiatives. Though the goals, designs, and outcomes of particular program's stakeholder engagement efforts will vary, these resources provide the core information on the process regardless of the scope of the project.

  • Stakeholder Engagement Plan for Statewide Longitudinal Data Systems: Guide and Template
    • This template is designed to guide the development of a comprehensive stakeholder engagement plan. It consists of several descriptive sections, as well as a set of tables to help state integrated data system lead agency representatives systematically address the people and issues involved in stakeholder engagement.  Each section of the document includes a set of guiding questions to help users develop their own plan based on their unique environment.
  • Stakeholder Communications: SLDS Best Practices Brief
    • Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, and Oregon participated in a discussion with Robin Taylor of the SLDS State Support Team around stakeholder communications. This SLDS Best Practices Brief captures the strategies, best practices, and lessons learned from these states’ experiences.

  • Stakeholder Engagement Toolkit: Traversing Stakeholderland
    • This toolkit guides readers a six step plan that builds towards effective stakeholder engagement. Along with the six steps, the toolkit supplies guiding questions, exercises, and tips to help users identify where they are in the stakeholder engagement process and where they need to go.

  • Leading By Convening: A Blueprint for Authentic Engagement
    • The authors of this resource share their experiences with creating learning partnerships across special education stakeholders. They emphasize practicing "authentic engagement" to allow partners to act together, including during times of disagreement.
