Comprehension Probes

1. Can the student answer literal questions such as the: who, what, when, where and how of a passage?

2. After reading, can the student tell you the main idea of the passage?

3. Is the student able to answer higher level questions about the reading passage? These would include interpretive, critical and creative questions.

The teacher will determine the need to use added comprehension strategies based on the age of the student and what the curriculum requires for the student’s level.
