Evaluation and Assessment in Preschool Special Education - Part B of IDEA

Evaluation and assessment in preschool special education are driven by requirements in the federal (CFR) and state of Maryland (COMAR) special education law and regulations pertaining to preschool.  In preschool special education assessment is the process of collecting the data to be used by the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to conduct an evaluation. Evaluation and assessment practices must focus on the child’s present level of academic achievement and functional performance as well as on indicated areas of development related to the suspected disability.
