Who Participates in Assessment and Evaluation?

Assessment personnel should be qualified and trained in the assessment of young children.  The IEP team must include:

• Parent/guardian
• General education teacher or child care provider
• Early childhood special education teacher
• Public agency administrator
• Anyone parents request to be present

The following additional personnel may participate as necessary or indicated in the assessment and/or evaluation of the young child:

• Nurse
• Psychologist
• Speech, language, and hearing specialist
• Occupational and/or physical therapist
• Adaptive physical education teacher
• Teacher of children who are visually impaired, deaf, or hard of hearing
• Orientation and mobility specialist
• Assistive technology specialist
• Interpreter or translator
• Child care provider and/or preschool teacher
