How do we gather information about children?

We gather information about children's strengths and needs through assessment. According to the DEC Recommended Practices (2014), assessment is a process that is used to gather information to make decisions. It is used for multiple purposes, though most notably in this session, for individualized planning, monitoring child progress, and measuring child outcomes. The Child Outcomes Summary (COS) Process provides a mechanism to gather this information from a variety of methods and sources - you'll learn about the essential knowledge needed to do this and participate in the COS Process in this session.
