Introduction to the Maryland Child Outcomes Summary Process

Wrap Up

Essential knowledge of functional assessment, age-established expectations, and teaming principles are needed to participate in the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) process. The DEC Recommended Practices (2014) supports the essential knowledge and skills needed to participate effectively in the COS Process.

Activity

Take a moment to visit and bookmark the DEC Recommended Practices (2014) you may wish to include it in the Child Outcomes resource library folder you created in Session 1.

Note the seven topic areas used to organize the practices: Assessment, Environment, Family, Instruction, Interaction, Teaming and Collaboration, and Transition. Review the sections on Assessment, Family, and Teaming and Collaboration to prepare for the next session and to think about how you will engage the child's family and your colleagues in the COS process. Are there additional sections that might pertain to measuring child outcomes in the COS process?
