How do we determine whether children are making progress?

We determine children's progress through the Child Outcomes Summary (COS) Rating Process. This process is team-based, and should always include a member of the child's family. Together, teams gather, document, and share functional information about children's skills and behaviors across everyday situations and settings. They then compare it to age-established expectations, and using the 7-point COS rating scale, arrive at a rating that describes children's global functioning in each of the three outcomes. This session will provide an overview of the COS rating process and how teams document and arrive at a COS rating for a child.
