Fluency Strategies

• Teaching Phrasing, Expression, and Attention to Punctuation - Use this strategy to demonstrate the importance of punctuation. It can be used before reading to demonstrate the need for fluency and punctuation or during reading to help with comprehension and fluency.
• Language Experience Approach (LEA) - This is a reading program that works well with non- readers and helps the students begin to feel successful in the ability to read.
• Listening to Reading - Give students varied opportunities for hearing texts.
• Rereading/Practice Reading - Have students reread selected texts.
• Prompt - Prompt, don’t correct.
