Summary Statements

After students read a passage, provide statements out of sequence reflecting main points of the story. The student puts the statements in order.

Instructions:

1. The teacher puts different statements on 3x5 cards and gives them to each team.
2. Each student in the team reads one card.
3. The team then puts the statements in order.
4. When finished they read the statements for a summary of the story.
5. They then share with the class or another team.
6. This can also be done with partners.
7. For assessment purposes this can be done individually. Here the teacher would list all of the sentences on a sheet of paper. The students would number the sentences to create a summary.
