WELCOME to the Johns Hopkins University Online Coaching 4 Teachers program. This 6-week online program is designed for educators who are interested in building coaching skills so they can help other teachers improve their content knowledge, instructional delivery, behavior management, and/or assessment of student learning. Through a series of interactive online learning activities, which are coordinated with the International Federation of Coaching Competencies, and a professional learning community (PLC), participants are introduced to foundational principles of effective coaching as well as practical protocols and tools for guiding the coaching experience with teachers. In the last two weeks of the program, aspiring coaches engage in a field-based project - the Practicum. During this time, they utilize the Online Coaching 4 Teachers process and its resources with a teacher to co-address a particular challenge so that teaching performance and student learning advance.
The Online Coaching 4 Teachers embraces the purpose of coaching as a means for helping teachers to reflect, change behavior, and use new or refined teaching practices that boost student achievement and performance. Key elements of effective coaching are infused within each of the following stages of the coaching cycle: The Partnership: COACH, Discovery, Action-Plan, and Debriefing. Each stage includes a specific focus with accompanying protocols, guiding questions, and tools to help the coach facilitate an meaningful, effective coaching experience for the teacher.
The primary aim of this virtual coaching program is to help participants build a solid understanding of effective coaching principles and key processes for establishing a productive coaching partnership—one that successfully guides a teacher on a journey toward improved teaching and positive results for students.
