Examples
The Using the Gradebook, and Using the Statistics Tool (both found on the ELC Tools page) are two examples of screencasts. There are also two examples on the Week 1 Readings page, however, they were used to add narration to PowerPoint presentations.
Screencasts
Screencasting, or screen capturing, allows you to share a recording of your computer screen activity, along with voice narration or other audio, for others to view. Perhaps you want to demonstrate how to use a certain piece of software, or navigate through a website. A screencast is a perfect way to demonstrate how to do this. Two free screen capture tools are Jing (free version limited to five minutes) and Screencast-O-Matic (free version limited to 15 minutes).
For more information about screencasting, as well as tips and strategies for creating your own screencast, watch the Screencast Webinar provided by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
