Reflection

The purpose of Transition Services is to reasonably enable the student to meet his or her measureable postsecondary goals.

Based on what you’ve learned in this PD Activity, the following questions should help you when entering transition information into the Maryland Online IEP System:

  1. What experiences must the student participate in this academic year that are necessary for achieving their identified post-secondary goal?
  2. What services and specific instruction are essential this year for the student to develop skills and knowledge to attain their post-secondary goal?

  3. Do we know enough about this student’s vocational skills to identify an appropriate post-secondary employment goal or design activities to support the identified goal?

Challenge Question

Think about how you would answer this Challenge Question if you were in a group setting.

How do the following areas contribute to writing an effective transition plan for a child in a secondary setting?

  • Student’s interests, preferences and age appropriate transition assessments
  • Post-Secondary Goals
  • Employment, Training, Education
  • Independent Living
