The UNITED Protocol

UNITED is a power-packed process for building an effective co-teaching team. It lays a strong foundation for sharing co-teaching roles and tasks. The UNITED protocol guides teachers toward building a high-performing co-teaching team and provides even experienced educators with tools and topics to discuss in preparation for a year of collaboration, cooperation, and unity of effort. By anticipating and addressing common stumbling blocks of co-teaching, teachers will be better prepared to meet students' needs united around a common purpose as they strive for success. The video below presents the steps of the UNITED protocol. During the Learning Together portion of this OLE, co-teachers work within their team to complete the steps of UNITED.

While you are viewing, think about:

  • What past experience do your teams have with co-teaching?
  • What actions can teachers take individually and as a team to build a high performing co-teaching team?
