The TBCI in Action
Read the two FAQs about SET-Up and Presentation then watch the videos that highlight each of these stages of the TBCI.
1. “How can we create a SET-Up routine that helps students gear up and get ready to learn?”
At its core, SET-Up routines prompt students to prepare for the day’s lesson with minimal intervention from the adults in a classroom. To create your own SET-Up routine consider what your students need to be successful during your instructional period. Prepare your students for success by outlining the goals of your lesson – what will your students know and be able to do today? Be sure to include any important materials and special information or directions they need to know in order to proceed independently. Use a timer to add efficiency to your students’ organization. Once time expires, students should be prepared and ready to move on to your content presentation.
2. “How can we design and deliver content-rich presentations to keep students engaged in learning throughout our lesson?”
Remember that the majority of your class period should involve interactive learning. There are several ways to accomplish this – some high-tech solutions and some -low tech solutions. Regardless of the technology available to you and your students, the goal is to create lessons that involve active learning. Cueing, modeling, experimenting, and experiencing learning are all techniques that actively engage students in the learning process.
