To prepare for the Assessment, read all instructions and then access the resources on the Professional Networks Resources list.

My PLN

This week you will begin creating a personal learning network (PLN), a system of connections with other educators that utilizes digital tools and resources, that will help you find answers to important questions, communicate and collaborate beyond the walls of your school, and discover virtual tools that will enhance your teaching and your students’ learning.

Creating your PLN will require you to push yourself beyond your comfort zone. Thus, one goal of this Assessment is to do just that. Use the instructions below as a guide to exploring this week’s resources, and to seeing how by extending yourself beyond your comfort level you will in turn increase your comfort with the technology.

Instructions:

  • Access the Professional Networks Resources list located in the Handouts box on the Resources page.
  • For each resource listed, follow the instructions provided as to what to read, view, or explore.
  • Note: Some of the resources are informational, while others invite hands-on investigation and participation. Your participation is a key component of this Assessment. Remember to push beyond your comfort zone, whether that entails registering for a Twitter account and following and tweeting educators, responding to a blog post, signing up for a news feed, or contributing to a wiki. Make an effort to interact in ways that will inform your professional learning and your teaching practice and not simply fulfill the requirements of this module.
  • Based on your investigation and participation, create a product (e.g., PowerPoint, video, podcast, screen cast, website, or other medium) describing your PLN. Follow the instructions on the My PLN Instructions handout.
  • Submit your product to your Instructor and share it with your classmates according to the instructions below.

Save this Assessment as “MyPLN_firstinitiallastname” and submit it to the Gradebook by the end of Week 3.

Upload your MyPLN file to the Dropbox located on the left navigation bar by the end of Week 3.

 Please proceed to the Discussion.
