When students have been identified with a behavioral or emotional disorder, they bring with them a host of issues that may confound the teacher, interfere with learning, and impact the other students in the classroom. However, with the right interventions from special educators, students can develop appropriate self-management and social skills, and they stand a better chance to achieve academically, including accomplishing their vision and big goals. In order to teach appropriate behaviors to a student with special needs, teachers must first understand the underlying functions of misbehavior, then determine and follow an intervention plan. In this module, you will learn practices that support students to internalize better conduct, necessary for them to thrive in and outside of school.
