One of the most frustrating moments in teaching is when you feel like you have tried everything to solve a student’s behavioral problems and you just don’t know what to do next. Trying everything is too random to be effective. The purpose of a functional behavioral analysis and hypothesis is that your choices will be grounded in a process. You track a student’s negative actions, identify target behaviors that are positive, select and apply intervention strategies, and then evaluate the effectiveness of your efforts. You will generally be making these decisions with the IEP team and monitoring the effectiveness of your efforts carefully.

The goal of this week is to examine several interventions that will lead to lasting behavioral change.
