Family Investment Communication:

In order to accomplish your big goals, you, your students, and their families need to understand the reasoning behind the choices you make in the classroom. When you promote a growth mindset in your students and communicate to them your philosophy of differentiation, they will put forth more effort and persist with rigorous learning. When you communicate these same ideals to families and other stakeholders, they will know you are committed to promoting your students’ success.  Communicating your positive outlook will encourage stakeholders to invest in your practice. This week you will communicate your beliefs to families with a letter, a PowerPoint presentation, or other type of communiqué.

Instructions:

  • Review the resources for this week and consider your beliefs about the following:
-

Growth mindset

-

Philosophy of differentiation

-

Collaborating with families

  • Craft a letter, create a PowerPoint presentation, or develop some other type of communication (e.g., webcast, video, etc.) that explains your beliefs and provides a rationale for family/stakeholder buy-in. See Sample Family Investment Communication located in the handouts box.

Save this Assessment as “FamilyInvestmentCommunication_firstinitiallastname” if you chose to write a letter, or “FamilyInvestmentCommunication_firstinitiallastname” if you chose to create a PowerPoint, and submit it to the Gradebook by the end of Week 2.

Differentiated Lesson (Continued)

Continue planning your differentiated lesson so you will be ready to implement it in Weeks 3–4. Be sure that your lesson reflects your learning from Weeks 1 and 2.

 Proceed to the Discussion.
