Every child who receives special education must have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP serves two purposes: to establish the student’s learning goals and to define and describe what services will be provided by the school district. While a team of personnel develop the IEP together, it is not unusual for the child’s special education teacher to lead the effort by facilitating IEP meetings and actually writing the document. The success of implementing an IEP begins with writing it appropriately.
